Carpe Noctem - Yuri Visual Novel
A downloadable game for Windows
Carpe Noctem is a Gothic lesbian romance inspired by Castlevania and Sheridan Le Fanu's Carmilla.
This visual novel takes place in an alternate Victorian England plagued by creatures of the night. Adelaide Hadid, an orphan trained by The Church to slay monsters, is dispatched to a rural town to eliminate a powerful vampiress.
After a fateful duel with the seductive Cordelia, Adelaide finds herself growing closer to the vampiress and her charming maid, Lily. With her life suddenly beginning to change, the monster hunter must grapple with conflicted feelings about her target and The Church...

HEYA, just wanted to say I really enjoyed the game! It was a really sweet story and the characters were equally as sweet! Looking forward to any future projects!
Thanks so much! I'm very glad to hear you enjoyed it.
A lovely little story - I played the steam version and had the same freezing bug at the final battle, but I'd luckily made a save close-enough to that point and went to that. Seemed to fix it. That aside, I enjoyed my time reading it and thought a lot of the art and dialogue were cute. I'll look forward to your next work, thank you for making this!
You're welcome and thank you for the kind words!
I just can't figure out the freezing thing because it appears to be completely random. It only seems to happen like every 1-in-4 times .
great game !
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it.
Such a lovely story, thank you! Loved the characters, getting to know them and understanding them better. All their flaws and convictions make sense, and it's wonderful seeing them grow and learn from each other. Beautiful art and music as well!
Two bugs I encountered: (second one is a SPOILER)
When trying to install through itch it defaulted to just getting the art zip file, after that I couldn't change it to the game file, even with the dedicated download button. This might be more of an itch issue, I've had other games refuse to install after the first attempt failed for whatever reason. Just curious why it defaults to the art file instead of game file first. Downloading the game file from a browser page worked though and I could just run the exe after extracting the rar.
SPOILERS AHEAD!
In the big fight when getting stabbed the sword audio played once but otherwise the screen stayed black and the text box just said "narrator" but no text. And then it froze there. Reloading the last save and just replaying everything again somehow fixed it.
Thank you so much for the kind words!
I'll look into the first bug. The second one has been reported before, but I haven't been able to replicate it in any version of the game I've downloaded. I'm not really sure what's happening there or how to fix it.
Hello,
Thanks for the game. For a free game, it’s really well done.
I get the same issue and reloading a save has solve it. Cannot say more of what has already been said.
I wish your yuri visual novels are available for Android devices.
Very sorry. I tried to port it to Android with Cordova, but I know very little in terms of real coding and I couldn't figure out how it works.
might it be posible to get this on mac
I can give it a try. The only issue is that I don't have a Mac to test it on, so I would have to just publish it and hope it works.
I apreciate it
Hello. Could you please make this available for Android phones, probably those under Android 12? This looks so good and I want to play it badly, but I don't have any PC to open it with and Joiplay emulator won't work.
Yeah, I'll see what I can do. Visual Novel Maker has an Android export option, but I don't have any way of playtesting that version. Hopefully, it'll work.
I hope it works for my device.
Okay, I'm a bit dissapointed right now, because I got so far, close to what feels like the end of the game &... It just freezes right at the point where Adelaide gets stabbed by Keane... I was actually enjoying this, but for whatever reason I can't continue towards the end. I'm playing the Windows version.
Really sorry to hear that. The copy I downloaded works fine, so it must be some weird quirk with Electron. Did you try reloading a save and seeing if it freezes again at that point?
I'm actually planning on releasing a new version in a few days that fixes some typos and adds a scene to the end. I know it would be inconvenient, but you could download that and skip to the ending.
I can try redownloading & skipping the text to that point. I actually forgot to save the first time it happened & just restarted the game, skipping to the scene & it still happened. I said it freezes, but the way it does so, is the music plays, text box is blank & it doesn't proceed past the black screen.
Okay, I redownloaded it again, this time without mobile internet, the issue was fixed & I thought the ending was okay. I really wish the question of whether or not to be turned was up to the player though. I get that Adelaide is a 'holy' woman, raised on the churches values & that's why she didn't want to become a vampire, as it's more likely she wouldn't have felt comfortable being a vampire.
On the other hand... She has learned that not all vampires are evil, heartless, monsters who need to be killed without question. Cordelia would have been a good role model for her about being a 'good' vampire. I have to admit that I started playing the game (as I do with pretty much all games like this) hoping that the player could make a choice to have the main character turned, but I digress...
Anyway, overall I enjoyed the game & was surprised at the quality & even more so, the length of the game at the same time, knowing that it's free.
You know, that’s actually a really good idea about the choice. I’d have to work out how exactly that would play out, but I might do that in a future update. Thanks for the feedback!
Make it Browser playable
Do you often order people around like that ? You are looking like a jerk right now tbh (especially considering it’s a pay what you want game, first thing should be about being thankful or something…)
Anyway - can’t wait to play it !
I hope you enjoy it! Also, I actually don't accept any money, so it's completely free.
I tried to upload a web version, but itch.io only allows the zip file to be 520 mb. The VN is 744 mb after compression, so it's too big. Sorry.
